The Jefferson Bible

From the original preface:
“In 1803 while 'overwhelmed with other business', Mr. Jefferson cut from the Evangelists such passages as he believed would best present the ethical teaching of Jesus, and 'arranged them, on the pages of a blank book, in a certain order of time or subject.' He called it 'The Philosophy of Jesus of Nazareth, extracted from the account of his life and doctrines, as given by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, being an abridgement of the New Testament'.”

It is incredible that Thomas Jefferson, America’s third President, was able to find time to complete what was effectively a précis of the Gospel story without actually adding interpretation or any of his own words. His compilation was managed using “scissors and paste techniques”. He literally cut up copies of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John and glued them into a blank portfolio to produce this his own version, to capture the essential message
Each entry is carefully numbered and cross-referenced in the table provided to take the reader back to the complete text within the New Testament.
